Olympic National Park

Olympic National Park occupies Washington State’s remote northwest corner, shaped by isolation and ecological range rather than a single defining feature. Long before its designation as a national park, the land supported Indigenous communities whose ties to forests, rivers, and coastlines continue today. Its protected status reflects an effort to preserve not just scenery, but entire systems that function largely on their own terms.

The park’s landscape shifts dramatically over short distances. Temperate rainforests with dense undergrowth give way to alpine ridges, while rivers run clear from glaciated peaks toward a wild Pacific shoreline. This closeness of forest, mountain, and coast creates a sense of variety that feels continuous rather than compartmentalized.
