Kingman is a city in northwestern Arizona, set among the rugged mountains and high desert of Mohave County. Its location along historic U.S. Route 66 has made it an important stopping point for travelers crossing the Southwest, while its position between the Colorado River and the high country gives the city a varied surrounding landscape. Historic downtown Kingman contains preserved storefronts, murals, museums, and roadside landmarks that reflect its transportation heritage. The city is also a gateway to the Black Mountains, Hualapai Mountain country, and several remote desert landscapes.

Kingman's history is closely connected to railroads, mining, ranching, and the development of Route 66. The city grew as an important railroad community, and the arrival of the highway brought motorists, service stations, cafés, and motor courts into the local economy. The Powerhouse Visitor Center now houses the Arizona Route 66 Museum, which explores the history of the famous highway and its role in American travel. The Mohave Museum of History and Arts provides a broader look at the region, with exhibits covering Native American heritage, mining, transportation, ranching, and the development of Mohave County.

Kingman offers several attractions within and beyond its historic center. Locomotive Park displays a large steam locomotive and reflects the city's railroad heritage, while the Historic Route 66 corridor contains vintage signs, murals, and preserved roadside buildings. The Cerbat Foothills Recreation Area provides hiking and mountain-biking trails through rocky desert terrain just outside the city. Farther south, Hualapai Mountain Park rises into a cooler, forested landscape with pine and aspen among granite formations. The nearby drive over Sitgreaves Pass follows an older Route 66 alignment through the Black Mountains toward the former mining town of Oatman.

Kingman's food culture reflects its location along a historic road-travel corridor, with diners, cafés, Mexican restaurants, breweries, and casual eateries serving both residents and highway travelers. Local businesses also participate in farmers markets and community events that feature regional produce, honey, crafts, and prepared foods. A distinctive detail is Kingman's unusually strong connection to Route 66: the city sits on one of the longest remaining uninterrupted sections of the original highway alignment. Historic neon signs, roadside murals, vintage vehicles, and the Route 66 museum help preserve that connection while the surrounding mountains and desert provide a distinctly Mojave-region setting.
