Corn Islands are a small Caribbean archipelago off Nicaragua's southeastern coast, made up of Great Corn Island and Little Corn Island. The islands are surrounded by clear Caribbean waters, coral reefs, sandy beaches, and tropical vegetation. Great Corn Island is the larger and more developed of the two, with roads, villages, restaurants, and a local airport, while Little Corn Island is smaller and has no motor vehicles. The islands' separation from Nicaragua's mainland has helped preserve a distinct Caribbean character, with daily life closely connected to fishing, the sea, and coastal communities.

Caribbean culture is central to life on the Corn Islands, with African-Caribbean influences reflected in music, food, language, religion, and community celebrations. One of the most important cultural events is the annual Emancipation Day celebration, which includes parades, music, cultural performances, food fairs, and traditional crab soup. The islands also have Baptist and other Christian traditions that form part of their community identity. Local culture reflects the wider diversity of Nicaragua's Caribbean coast, where English-speaking Caribbean communities, Creole traditions, and other regional influences have shaped everyday life.

The surrounding marine environment is the main attraction, with coral reefs and clear shallow waters providing good conditions for snorkeling and diving. Great Corn Island has several beaches, including South West Bay, while Little Corn Island is known for beaches such as Otto Beach and Silver Sand Beach. Little Corn's trails cross tropical vegetation and connect different parts of the island on foot. Divers can explore coral formations and marine habitats offshore, while fishing and boat trips provide other ways to experience the Caribbean waters. The islands also support coastal vegetation and a variety of tropical bird and marine species.

Seafood plays a major role in Corn Islands cuisine, with fish, crab, lobster, and other marine products appearing in local dishes. Rondon, a coconut-based seafood stew, is one of the best-known foods of the Caribbean coast and is commonly prepared with fish, shellfish, plantains, yuca, and other ingredients. Crab soup is particularly associated with the islands' Emancipation Day celebrations, while coconut oil is traditionally used in dishes such as gallo pinto. The combination of Creole-Caribbean food traditions, coral reefs, two distinct islands, and strong connections to fishing gives the Corn Islands a distinctive place within Nicaragua.
