Lincoln, Nebraska, blends college-town spirit with prairie roots, offering a travel experience that’s both laid-back and surprising. As the state capital, Lincoln is home to the stunning Nebraska State Capitol building, an architectural landmark with a 400-foot tower topped by a bronze sower casting seeds over the land. Visitors can tour the building and ride to the 14th floor observation deck for sweeping views of the city and surrounding plains. Nearby, the University of Nebraska campus adds energy and history, including the vibrant Sheldon Museum of Art, which features a sculpture garden and a striking collection of 20th-century American art.

Downtown Lincoln has undergone a major transformation in recent years, especially in the Haymarket District. Once home to warehouses and rail lines, the area now buzzes with local shops, public art, and restaurants. The restored Lincoln Station is a hub of the action, and nearby Iron Horse Park includes a mechanical sculpture of a steam engine that puffs on the hour. Just blocks away, Pinnacle Bank Arena draws national music acts, and on game days, fans clad in red fill the streets to support the Nebraska Cornhuskers with unmatched enthusiasm.

Lincoln also surprises visitors with its green spaces and trail system. With over 130 miles of interconnected trails, biking or walking around the city is easy and scenic. Holmes Lake Park is a local favorite for picnics and paddleboarding, while the Sunken Gardens offers peaceful paths through seasonal plant displays and koi ponds. The garden is one of the only Depression-era public gardens in the country still in operation today.
